Agricultural School Tours

We believe that it important for kids to be educated about where their food comes from and how it is produced.  That is why we started offering our series of agricultural school tours.

Each tour offers kids a unique glimpse into life on the farm and the work that goes into growing our delicious berries and vegetables.  All of our tours meet core requirements of the curriculum of the British Columbia Ministry of Education and explain the science behind the agriculture in a way that is both fun and easy to understand.  You won’t believe all the things the kids will learn!

Bees, Blossoms and Berries Tour

Our Bees, Blossoms and Berries Tour is a great way to wrap up the school year with a fun and informative look at one of a farmer’s best friends: the bee!  Students will learn about the essential role that bees play in pollination and the growth of healthy plants, and they will also have the opportunity to safely examine a real beehive up close in our bee centre. Finally, the class will plant a strawberry basket to take back to the classroom so that they can personally observe the plants growth and development. A hay wagon ride around our scenic farm and some free time to visit our Play Zone and the animals in the Critter Corral are also included. Available May and June.

The Big Red Strawberry Hunt Tour

The Big Red Strawberry Hunt Tour offers a look at our favourite crop here at Maan Farms: our famous strawberries. Learning about just what it takes to make a strawberry plant grow from a tiny seed into a juicy berry will help the students appreciate them even more when they have the chance to pick a delicious handful for themselves. This tour also includes a hay wagon ride around the farm and the opportunity to visit our Play Zone and the animals in the Critter Corral. Available June.

Corn Here, Corn There, Corn Everywhere! Tour

The Corn Here, Corn There, Corn Everywhere! Tour is a great way to start a new school year. Students will have the opportunity to learn about how corn grows from a seed into a mature plant, find out some fun corn facts (did you know that corn is actually a fruit, and not a vegetable?), and discover the many uses of corn in our daily lives. Students will also have the chance to enjoy an authentic harvest tradition by barbecuing corn on an open fire at the low cost of $1 per student (weather and teachers permitting). The tour also includes a hay wagon ride around our scenic farm to view our other crops, as well as some free time to visit our Play Zone and the animals in the Critter Corral. Available September and October.

Papa Jo's A-Maze-ing Fun Tour

Kids love getting lost in Papa Jo’s Corn Maze, Sunflower labyrinth, rope maze, but do not worry; they will all find their way out again in time to catch the bus.  This fun and informative tour is a favorite of students and teachers alike, and includes an up-close look at the work that goes into the agricultural process, as well as a segment on the many benefits of local farms. This tour also includes a hay wagon ride around the farm and the opportunity to visit our Play Zone and the animals in the Critter Corral.  Available September and October.

The Pumpkin Patch Tour

Our last tour of the year is also one of our most popular.  The Pumpkin Patch Tour is a great way for students to learn about everyone’s favorite squash just in time for Halloween.  The tour includes a hay wagon trip to the pumpkin patch where the kids will learn about how pumpkins grow before they have the chance to pick their own to take home with them, as well as lots of fun pumpkin facts (did you know the biggest pumpkin ever grown was 1810.5 lbs.?). As always, this tour also includes a hay wagon ride around our scenic farm and the opportunity to visit our Play Zone and the animals in the Critter Corral. Available October.
